Dr Celest van Rooyen
Dr Celest van Rooyen is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Registered with the Health Professional Council (HPC).
She qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1985 and has been active in clinical practice since 1985. She obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1985 and obtained a D. Phil (Clin. Psych) Degree in 1993 in South Africa.
Whilst in South Africa she held the position of Senior Consultant Clinical Psychologist and lecturer, with a speciality in Adult and Child Mental Health Psychology.
Having worked four years in the NHS where she was associated with the University of Kent, she has since worked independently as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, incorporating Adult and Child Mental Health as well as medico-legal assessments of families and individuals.
In 2004 she attained the Certificate of Expert Witness Accreditation from Cardiff University. In March 2007 she achieved Chartered Scientist status.
She has extensive clinical experience and acts as an expert in child, adult and family-related issues in a clinical and legal context.
She is currently completing about six medico-legal reports per month for the purposes of child care proceedings and litigation issues.
On average, she completes approximately 120 reports per year, referrals coming from a wide range of sources, including Solicitors and Local Authorities.
She has a special interest in global family assessments and child abuse assessments. She also undertakes assessments relating to personal injury and PTSD assessments.
She is actively involved in clinical practice (10 hours per week) and experienced in treating a wide range of psychological conditions in both Adult Mental Health and Child Psychology.
She also provides clinical supervision for postgraduate psychology trainees
